Oklahoma United Methodist Environmental
Coalition
Mission Statement (approved December 7, 2003)
- United Methodist Environmental Coalition is grassroots collective
of people and congregations from across Oklahoma area and partners with
other United Methodist's; to raise awareness and act on behalf of God's
Creation.
- We will encourage persons and congregations to live according to the
United Methodist Social Principles in our relationship to the natural
world (see United
Methodist Book of Discipline, Social Principles 2000 Book of Discipline
160)
- To this end we strive:
- To identify and proclaim the spiritual and ethical dimensions
of environmental problems and their possible solutions.
- To assist, educate and to be a resource for individuals and congregations
in their effort proactively care for God's Creation.
- Encouraging the possibility of becoming Environmental Justice
Covenant Congregation.
- To educate persons, congregations, the Oklahoma Annual Conference,
and legislators on a variety of environmental public policy issues
from a religious perspective.
- To provide a religiously focused environmental resources.
- Specifically liturgical resources to celebrate Creation Care Sunday
- To carry on this ministry in partnership with congregation in
the United Methodist Church and other ecumenical bodies, as well
as other local environmental initiatives, and groups.
